A motocross boot has a rigid sole and a tall, stiff shaft deliberately — it stops the ankle twisting under the peg and takes the impact of roost, rocks and the bike landing on you. That same stiffness makes it poor for walking any distance and unnecessary on a road commute. Road and touring boots flex at the ankle and prioritise comfort and weather sealing. Buy for the riding you actually do, not the boot that looks toughest.
Motorcycle footwear sold as protective in the UK and EU is certified to EN 13634. It is tested on four separate criteria — boot height, abrasion resistance, cut resistance and transverse rigidity — and each is rated Level 1 or Level 2. A boot can be Level 2 on one criterion and Level 1 on another, so “CE certified” alone does not tell you much. Look for the ratings, and remember an uncertified boot is a fashion item however it is described.
Motocross boots do not fit like shoes. The shaft is stiff, the footbed sits differently and sizing varies between makers. Measure your foot in the sock you ride in and check the size chart on the product page rather than defaulting to your usual size. There should be no heel lift when you walk, and your toes should not touch the front when you point your foot down onto the peg.
This is where parents get it wrong, and it matters. A boot bought two sizes up so it “lasts the season” does not protect — the ankle sits in the wrong part of the shaft, the foot moves inside, and the boot cannot do its job. Buy the size that fits now, with a thicker sock if you want a little margin. Kids grow out of boots. That is the cost of the sport, not a reason to compromise on the fit.
Off-road boots close with ratchet buckles rather than laces — faster, adjustable over the shin, and nothing to catch on the bike. Check the buckles are replaceable: they are the first thing to break on any MX boot, and a boot with replaceable buckles lasts years longer than one without.
A new pair will feel unforgivingly stiff. That is the protection working, and it eases over the first few rides as the shaft flexes to your ankle. Do not size up to escape the stiffness — you will end up with a boot that is both uncomfortable and less protective.

No. A boot that is too big cannot protect — the ankle sits in the wrong part of the shaft and the foot moves inside it. Buy the size that fits now, with a thicker sock if you want a small margin. Growing out of boots is part of the sport.

You can, but they are not designed for it. The rigid sole and stiff shaft that protect you off-road make them uncomfortable to walk in and unnecessarily restrictive for commuting. For road and touring riding you want a flexible ankle and better weather sealing.
Yes. Off-road boots suit quad and ATV riding as well as motocross and enduro — the ankle protection and rigid sole matter just as much, and our junior range is widely used for youth quad riding.
