This is the first question most people ask, so let's answer it plainly. Hiring a plasterboard lifter costs roughly £30–40 a day plus a deposit, and you collect and return it yourself on your own time. Ours is £139.99, so it pays for itself on the fourth day — and after that it lives in your van instead of being booked out to somebody else. If you board more than one room a year, buying is the cheaper option. If it's a single ceiling and you'll never touch one again, hire it.
An 11ft lifter reaches roughly 3.4m, which covers standard domestic ceilings and most first-fix commercial work. Stairwells, garage conversions and double-height spaces need more reach, so measure floor to ceiling before you order. A lifter that falls 200mm short is no use to you at all.
A standard 12.5mm 2400 x 1200 sheet weighs around 22kg. Moisture-resistant board runs nearer 26kg, and acoustic or fire-rated board can reach 30kg. Our lifters are rated to 68kg, which covers double-boarding and the heaviest single sheets with room to spare. If the rating on a lifter is close to the weight of your board, it's the wrong lifter.
Screwfix, Toolstation and B&Q all stock plasterboard lifters at varying prices. Ours is 11ft, rated to 68kg, in stock for 1–3 day dispatch, and ships free to any UK mainland address. Compare the reach and the load rating, not just the headline price — a 9ft lifter is cheaper for a reason.

Standard 2400 x 1200 sheets, up to 68kg. That covers 12.5mm standard board, moisture-resistant board and heavier acoustic or fire-rated sheets, with enough margin for double-boarding.
Around 3.4m, which handles standard domestic ceilings and most first-fix commercial work. Measure floor to ceiling before ordering — for stairwells or double-height rooms you need a 15ft or 16ft model.
Yes — that is the whole point. Load the sheet at waist height, wind it up with the winch, position it against the joists and fix. No second pair of hands and no propping with your head.
Yes. The cradle tilts for sloped ceilings and high wall work, so the same lifter covers loft conversions and dormers.
Hire is roughly £30–40 a day plus a deposit. At £139.99 ours pays for itself in about four days, and then it stays in your van. For anything beyond a single one-off ceiling, buying works out cheaper.
Yes. Every order ships free to any UK mainland address — no minimum spend. Most in-stock items dispatch within 1–3 working days, and free 30-day returns are included on all orders.
